As for what to do with the whole running but geting nowhere thingie I suggest you pick up a new subject. Something that you have never drawn before, or a subject you have intentionally avoided. For me it's humans. Really, there is nothing more frustrating and difficult for me than to draw humans. BUT during the continuous studying, sketching and cursing I have learned more about lighting, tones, colours etc. So it has really been worth of all the frustration.
And well, I don't like to draw humans. Really. I think humans are just boring. If I can draw millions of species, what do humans matter
