Just doodled something and found myself drawing my character Marras with a pretty different look. I feel like I'm not making any progress in art, I'm just stuck on drawing the same things I always draw >_<.

Looks good! the human-like hands gives a really nice creepy touch. Now paint that sucker!
As for what to do with the whole running but geting nowhere thingie I suggest you pick up a new subject. Something that you have never drawn before, or a subject you have intentionally avoided. For me it's humans. Really, there is nothing more frustrating and difficult for me than to draw humans. BUT during the continuous studying, sketching and cursing I have learned more about lighting, tones, colours etc. So it has really been worth of all the frustration.
